Please join our president Alexander S. Kunz for our November 2021 photography activity: we’ll go for a nature walk on the trails in the riparian woodlands at Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve.
Activities
The Photo Section activities are open to the public – even if you’re not a member, feel free to join us! If you’re having fun and like what we’re doing, we’d be happy if you’d become a member, of course. ;-)
Our activities are NOT Sierra Club Outings. People may join and leave as they please.
October 2021 Activity: Dawn at the Tide Pools
Please join our president Alexander S. Kunz for our October 2021 photography activity, for which we’ll meet in La Jolla to make photos at the tide pools of Hospital Point, at dawn.
August Activity: Laguna Meadows at Night
For our first in-person activity of the year, we are going to photograph the Milky Way above the Laguna Meadows. This activity is ideal for both our members who do not go to Bodie State Park at night with our vice-chair Mark, as well as those who do go and wish to practice immediately before heading up there.
2020 SCPS Photo Contest Winners Galleries
The galleries with winners and honorable mentions from our 2020 SCPS Photo Contest are available now. Our sincere thanks to the judges Sandy Zelasko, Stephen Bay, Lee Sie and Alexander S. Kunz – and to all of our members who participated!
February 2020 Activity: Palm Wash Canyons (Anza Borrego)
Join our president Alexander S. Kunz for an exploration of the (slot) canyons in the Palm Wash area of Anza Borrego Desert State Park, near the old Calcite Mine. This is a full-day activity (if you want) – depending on our timing we can head from the Palm Wash area to Fonts Point or Clark Dry Lake for sunset, and then have dinner in the town of Borrego Springs together. Continue reading if you’re interested!
January 2020 Activity: Birds of La Jolla
Join us for our January 2019 activity with board member and outgoing president Steve Cirone, photographing the birds of La Jolla – primarily the cormorants and pelicans.
December 2019 Activity: Birds of Santee Lakes
Join us on Saturday, December 14th, for our monthly photo activity: Birds of Santee Lakes with our president and acclaimed bird photographer Steven Cirone. Our activities are not limited to club members, they’re free and open to anyone who wants to join us. If you’re interested to meet a friendly flock of bird-flavored photography geeks, come out and play with us! 🙂
November 2019 Activity: Fall Color Hike at Palomar Mountain
Please join our vice chair Alexander S. Kunz for a fall-color hike on Palomar Mountain’s Observatory Trail. The hike is about 4 miles (out and back) with an estimated 650 feet of elevation change. We start at the Observatory Campground day-use parking area and hike to where the trail meets Canfield Road, near the entrance to the Observatory. We hike back the way we came.
