Travel Photography In Nepal & The Himalayas

It’s impossible to describe the relatively small country of Nepal in one photo. From the tallest, frozen peak on our planet, Mount Everest or Sagarmatha as it is known to the Nepalese, to the sweltering jungles along its border with India, Nepal is defined by its variety. Rhinos, Buddhist temples, razor-sharp peaks, meandering rivers, leeches, chaos. Peace.

For Peter, Nepal has been a personal favorite photography location since his first trip in 2008. What brings him back time and again to the Himalayas are the towering peaks, the sense of calm and the incredible sunrises. But you can’t know the country without bustling through the chaotic and grimy Kathmandu streets, thick with cultural treasures, markets and insane tuk tuk drivers. Come along on this journey to scratch your traveling photography itch in a place full or color and contrast.

About Peter

Peter West Carey is a world traveling photographer and instructor with over 30 years experience shooting landscape, travel and nature scenes. His love of helping others learn photography and capturing the beauty of the world around them led him to begin instructing beginners and advance students alike 13 years ago. The classes and workshops he teaches have taken him and his students from 19,000′ high in the Himalayas of Nepal to the backstreets and festivals of India. From the scenic Columbia River Gorge in Oregon to multiple week-long humpback whale watching trips in Alaska.

He has also been invited by the countries of Jordan, Bhutan and Mexico, as well Hawaii, Colorado and British Columbia, Canada, to photograph their natural wonders and unique travel experiences. His images have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, Condé Nast Traveler, Huffington Post, Washington Magazine, American Alpine Club Journal and he has over 350 photography instruction articles to his credit on Digital Photography School’s website.

He never stops tinkering and trying to learn more about photography. From recent ventures into gimbaled cameras and drones, to playing with 360 photo and video, he loves to learn from each new advance in the art to improve his own expression of the world around him.

MemberShare

After the main presentation, we’ll take a short break before we continue with our MemberShare. Here’s a quick reminder of the guidelines and procedure:

  • Send up to five photos via Dropbox file request.
  • Please send only JPEG files, sRGB color space
  • Minimum resolution: 1920 pixels wide or 1080 pixels high (whichever comes first)
  • Prepare to speak no more than 10-20 seconds on each photo
  • We’re a photo club – please share only your original photographs with us (no CGI, digital art, etc.)
  • Deadline for MemberShare submissions: Friday, April 16th, 6pm
  • Nameplates: feel free to include a portrait format headshot with your photos

To submit your images, simply click this button:

SEND YOUR PHOTOS

If you need help or if there’s anything unclear about this procedure, the Dropbox help article on file requests contains everything you need to know.

NOTE: Your photos are only shown during MemberShare and will be deleted afterwards. We do not keep copies. There is no need to watermark your photos. If you feel that you must add a logo or other overlay, please keep it small and unobtrusive.

Also, please do not wait until the very last minute to submit the photos you want to share. We need time to prepare the image presentation. When the MemberShare is especially popular, we may have to reduce the amount of images from each member. If that happens we will announce it before MemberShare begins, and hope for your understanding.
