February 2021 Meeting: Backpacking Photography with Alan Majchrowicz

We invite all Photo Section members to our February 2021 online meeting with Pacific North-West landscape and nature photographer Alan Majchrowicz from Bellingham, Washington. Please continue reading if you’re interested.

Backpacking Photography in the Northern Rockies and North Cascades

Beginning at the height of summer and concluding during the Fall Larch season, this presentation will take you to spectacular backcountry destinations in Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, and Washington. Some of the destinations included are Idaho’s White Clouds Wilderness, Wind River Range of Wyoming, Glacier National Park, and North Cascades National Park. Along the way several classic frontcountry will also be visited.

About Alan

Alan Majchrowicz found his lifelong passion for nature during childhood fishing trips to Northern Wisconsin. Acquiring his first camera in high school he became enthralled with all aspects of the photographic process. Later while studying painting and printmaking at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, he realized his future path was creating images of the natural world through photography.

Residing with his family in the scenic Pacific Northwest town of Bellingham Washington, Alan is surrounded by the inspiring subject matter he loves. All his outdoor activities, such as hiking, backpacking, and skiing, are seamlessly blending into his photographic art.

After photographing and honing his skills for many years with demanding large format film cameras, Alan now works exclusively in digital format. His fine art prints are currently in demand by interior designers and corporate art buyers for use in health care facilities, hospitality, corporate offices, and residential venues.

In addition, his images have been widely published throughout the world. They have been used in advertising campaigns, product design, and tourism brochures, books, magazines, and calendars.

After the main presentation, we’ll take a short break before we continue with our MemberShare. Here’s a quick reminder of the guidelines and procedure:

  • Send up to five photos via Dropbox file request.
  • Please send only JPEG files, sRGB color space
  • Minimum resolution: 1920 pixels wide or 1080 pixels high (whichever comes first)
  • Prepare to speak no more than 10-20 seconds on each photo
  • We’re a photo club – please share only your original photographs with us (no CGI, digital art, etc.)
  • Deadline for MemberShare submissions: Friday, February 19th, 6pm
  • Nameplates: feel free to include a portrait format headshot with your photos

If you need help or if there’s anything unclear about this procedure, the Dropbox help article on file requests contains everything you need to know.

NOTE: Your photos are only shown during MemberShare and will be deleted afterwards. We do not keep copies. There is no need to watermark your photos. If you feel that you must add a logo or other overlay, please keep it small and unobtrusive.

Also, please do not wait until the very last minute to submit the photos you want to share. We need time to prepare the image presentation. When the MemberShare is especially popular, we may have to reduce the amount of images from each member. If that happens we will announce it before MemberShare begins, and hope for your understanding.
