We invite all members of the Sierra Club San Diego’s Photo Section to our June 2022 online meeting with landscape photographer Nic Stover with his presentation “Foundations of Composition & Image Design”. Please continue reading if you’re interested. Meeting date and time are at the end of this invitation.
To join the online meeting, you must be a member of the Photo Section. Membership for the entire year of 2022 is only $25 and can be purchased online. The Zoom link to join the meeting will be sent to members a few days ahead of the meeting, via our mailing list.
Foundations of Composition & Image Design
In this session we will see how the most impactful and compelling images are the those that have the proper balance of Technique, Vision, and Processing. All of these skills need to be developed and continually refined through our own artistic and creative process. These skills you will learn will help you to evaluate what images you might want to select for your portfolio, see some simple ways to correct minor distractions in post, and give you greater confidence to express yourself in new ways.
About Nic
Nic Stover is based in San Luis Obispo and focuses on landscape photography classes and workshops along with selling custom and limited edition prints for businesses and homes. Nic enjoys showcasing the amazing places that are unique to the Central Coast, from sea caves to sand dunes and dramatic coastal landscapes.
Nic Stover Photography exists to engage people of all ages, backgrounds, experiences, and desires into a dialog about the natural environment and the impacts we (as humans) have on this changing world. Nic honors the art of photography and its ability to capture the moment or show a beauty that can be shared with the world.
He wants to take a different perspective from the top of a peak, behind the controls of a drone/UAV or from the bottom of a canyon. Through this journey, his hope is to engage people into the natural environment and get them to appreciate the beauty and the opportunities that exist, in order to protect this amazing place we call Earth.
The natural environment exists to inspire not as something we can exploit and as such, Nic donates 10% of his net income to groups that seek to protect the environment, educate and engage people from non-traditional paths, or promote understanding of nature and the profound impacts it can have on the soul.
Through this work he sell prints, and is also available to hire for specialized shoots or commissioned work, and conduct in field photography workshops with people of all skills and abilities.

MemberShare
After the main presentation, we’ll take a short break before we continue with our MemberShare. Here’s a quick reminder of the guidelines and procedure:
- Send up to five photos via Dropbox file request.
- Please send only JPEG files, sRGB color space
- Minimum resolution: 1920 pixels wide or 1080 pixels high (whichever comes first)
- Prepare to speak no more than 10-20 seconds on each photo
- We’re a photo club – please share only your original photographs with us (no CGI, digital art, etc.)
- Deadline for MemberShare submissions: Friday, June 24, 6pm
- Nameplates: please include a portrait format headshot with your photos
To submit your images, simply click this button:
If you need help or if there’s anything unclear about this procedure, the Dropbox help article on file requests contains everything you need to know.
NOTE: Your photos are only shown during MemberShare and will be deleted afterwards. We do not keep copies. There is no need to watermark your photos. If you feel that you must add a logo or other overlay, please keep it small and unobtrusive.
Also, please do not wait until the very last minute to submit the photos you want to share. We need time to prepare the image presentation. When the MemberShare is especially popular, we may have to reduce the amount of images from each member. If that happens we will announce it before MemberShare begins, and hope for your understanding.
