May 18 Photo Club Meeting – Afoot & Afield in San Diego County with Scott Turner
San Diego’s community of outdoor enthusiasts was heartbroken after Jerry Schad’s untimely passing in 2011. He was a prolific hiker and author of many Southern California hiking books – but best known to us for Afoot & Afield in San Diego County, rightly so simply referred to as the “Bible of San Diego Hiking” by many.
It is the San Diego Photo Club’s great pleasure to have Scott Turner as our presenter in May, the enthusiastic hiker and lover of the outdoors from Vista, who stepped up and took on the herculean task of updating the book that got so many of us outside, exploring San Diego’s fantastic hiking opportunities.
For this 5th edition of Afoot & Afield in San Diego County, which has been released early in April this year and is already a #1 bestseller on Amazon, he went on every trip in the book, verifying the accuracy of the information, and on top of that expanded Jerry Schad’s hiking universe in San Diego County with 30 new routes.
In his presentation, he will share a bit of the story from his journey, show us some of the best photo opportunities from trips in the book, and also tell us how it was photography that first got him into hiking. After the presentation, Scott will be available for questions, and book signing during intermission, before we proceed with our club meeting’s monthly raffle and our MemberShare.
Intermission and MemberShare – Immediately Following
After the main presentation, we will have a brief intermission where you can pay your Photo Club Membership in person and purchase tickets for our sponsors raffle.
MemberShare will occur after the intermission.
Please note: Send 5 images via Dropbox to Steve Ross. You no longer need to resize your images. Instructions are here and they cover the details of getting the images to us.
The most important changes are that with the growth of the club and increase in meeting attendance, we must take the steps of limiting each member to 5 images and we will no longer be displaying non-member images in MemberShare.
As always, our club meetings are open to the general public. Please invite your friends to join us for an informative and great evening! Find more information here: Meeting Location and Details.
Don’t forget, with your 2017 Membership you will receive one raffle ticket each month for free! You can purchase additional tickets for $1.00. Also, if you paid for your membership at the last meeting, we will have your membership cards at the meeting!
Members are welcome to display their work in our meeting room. If you have a framed print and an easel, bring it in and set it up at 6:30 PM for everyone to see!
The Photo Section of the Sierra Club San Diego Chapter began in 1984 and has grown to be among the largest photo clubs in San Diego County. Our members are artists, travelers, humanitarians, and conservationists. We support most genres of photography and welcome new members to our group.
Photo Section meetings are held once a month between January and November, with additional club activities throughout the year. For more information, please visit our club calendar page.
