You are invited to the November 2019 meeting of the Sierra Club San Diego Chapter Photo Section at the Serra Mesa/Kearny Mesa Library Community Room. Our presenter this month is travel photographer Nick Agelidis, who will be sharing Travel Photography Tips from Mongolia and Beyond with us. Please continue reading if you’re interested, and find the complete details with date and time at the bottom of this article.
If you are a 2019 Photo Section member, please read the important section “Meeting Date & Time” below!
About the Presentation
On assignment from the Global Neighborhood Project, Nick was sent to photograph Mongolia “from the eyes of a San Diegan”, with the intention of creating an exhibition and book that will enhance people’s awareness and understanding of this interesting country. He will discuss that trip, and present images from the now published book Mongolia: Beneath the Eternal Blue Sky.
Nick will also share tips from his accumulated knowledge as a travel photographer, like what techniques he has developed over the years that help him to prepare for and capture interesting images while traveling.
About Nick Agelidis
Nick Agelidis is a photographer who lives in La Jolla, California. He was born and grew up in Australia. He moved to England in his twenties to complete a PhD in engineering; he came to the US in his thirties and worked in the automotive industry, which then took him to Holland and France in his forties, and back to the US in his fifties.
Nick has been an avid traveler and keen photographer from an early age and his extensive travels have given him many opportunities to indulge his passion. In 2014 his photography book, La Jolla: A Photographic Journey was published by Sunbelt Publications. He is also the author of numerous self-published photo-books from his travels including Azerbaijan, India, China, Italy, Spain, Vietnam and Cambodia. Nick is a member of the Global Neighborhood Project and recently visited and photographed Mongolia on its behalf, resulting in the photobook Mongolia: Beneath the Eternal Blue Sky.

Intermission and MemberShare – Immediately Following
After the main presentation, we will have a brief intermission and our members only free drawing – every section member present at the meeting will receive a free ticket for the drawing, with a chance to win prices and giveaways from our supporters.
MemberShare will occur after the intermission. Here’s a quick reminder of the guidelines and procedure:
- Send up to five photos via Dropbox file request.
- Please send only JPEG files, sRGB color space
- Minimum resolution: 1920 pixels wide or 1080 pixels high (whichever comes first)
- No maximum resolution but anything larger than 3000 x 2000 is unnecessary
- Prepare to speak no more than 10-20 seconds on each photo
- We’re a photo club – please share only your original photographs with us (no CGI, digital art, etc.)
- Deadline for MemberShare submissions: Friday, November 8th, 6pm
- Nameplates: feel free to include a portrait format (vertical) headshot with your photos
To submit your images, simply click this button:
If you need help or if there’s anything unclear about this procedure, the Dropbox help article on file requests contains everything you need to know.
NOTE: Your photos are only shown during MemberShare and will be deleted afterwards. We do not keep copies. There is no need to watermark your photos. If you feel that you must add a logo or other overlay, please keep it small and unobtrusive.
Also, please do not wait until the very last minute to submit the photos you want to share. We need time to prepare the image presentation. When the MemberShare is especially popular, we may have to reduce the amount of images from each member. If that happens we will announce it before MemberShare begins, and hope for your understanding.
