September 2022 Meeting: Sierra Nevada Fall Color with G Dan Mitchell

We invite all members of the Sierra Club San Diego’s Photo Section to our September 2022 online meeting. We’re excited to have photographer G Dan Mitchell back, this time with his presentation “Photographing Fall Color in the Sierra Nevada.” Meeting date and time are at the end of this invitation. Please continue reading if you’re interested.

Photographing Fall Color in the Sierra Nevada

As the explosive Sierra summer growth cycle runs its course, streams and meadows dry out, and the days begin to shorten in late summer, the first hints of autumn begin to appear. By September the signs become more obvious and near the end of the month aspen trees start to show color, heralding the widespread appearance of intense color during the first half of October all up and down the Sierra. The color works its way down to lower elevations on both sides of the range, continuing on into early November.

Dan will take us on a virtual tour of autumn color photography in California’s Sierra Nevada, sharing hints about autumn color locations, timing, and approaches to photographing this annual event.

After the main presentation, we’ll take a short break before we continue with our MemberShare.

Photos don’t have to be recent. SEND YOUR BEST PHOTOGRAPHS. For example, create a small series of five favorite images or a project, and share with others what your photographic interests are about.

Here’s a quick reminder of the guidelines and procedure:

To submit your images, simply click this button:

If you need help or if there’s anything unclear about this procedure, the Dropbox help article on file requests contains everything you need to know.

NOTE: Your photos are only shown during MemberShare and will be deleted afterwards. We do not keep copies. There is no need to watermark your photos. If you feel that you must add a logo or other overlay, please keep it small and unobtrusive.

When the MemberShare is especially popular, we may have to reduce the amount of images from each member. If that happens we will announce it before MemberShare begins, and hope for your understanding.
